Sivogah, the Place of Willows

In the fall of 1849 Ebenezer Brown grazed cattle along South Willow Creek, and the next spring he settled here with his wife, Phebe Draper Palmer Brown, at a spot known by the Native American name Sivogah, meaning "Willows." A fort begun for the winters of 1855 and 1856 was never finished; its site is now Draper Historical Park on Fort Street.

Draper Questions on a Preflight Checklist

Six questions before you take off
Check 1

Does my dog need a Draper license?

Yes. All dogs in Draper need a license issued by Draper City Animal Services, with a Draper address. The dog must have its rabies vaccination first.

Check 2

How much is a Draper dog license?

$15 a year for a spayed or neutered dog and $40 a year for an unaltered dog. A late license costs $50, and a replacement or transfer is $5.

Check 3

Are there senior rates for Draper dog licenses?

Yes. For a senior, a spayed or neutered dog is $10 for the lifetime of the pet, and an unaltered dog is $5 a year.

Check 4

What does it cost if Draper Animal Services impounds my dog?

$40 for the first impound, $80 for the second, $120 for the third and $175 for the fourth, and boarding is $10 a day. Each impound after the fourth brings a citation with a court hearing and a $175 fine.

Check 5

Where is Draper City Animal Services?

At 12375 South Vista Station Boulevard, open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The phone number is (801) 576-6344.

Check 6

Who pays if a support animal damages a Draper rental?

Utah Code 26B-6-803 makes the person with the animal liable for damage it causes to the premises, and lets a private housing owner recover a reasonable repair cost, even though the owner may not charge an extra fee or deposit for the animal. Whether an untrained animal counts as a support animal depends on federal law, which HUD has enforced less since May 2026.

Draper City Animal Services sets the license and impound fees and can change them, so confirm with the city before relying on a figure here. The estimator shows only fees the city lists and is not a bill. Screening does not guarantee a letter. In a crisis, call or text 988.
