Fort Herriman and the Four Founders

Herriman was established in 1851, and its fort stood where the community garden is today; two black locust trees near the old entry are all that remain. The settlement stayed small until 1999, when residents went door to door with a petition to incorporate as a town. Rose Creek Estates began in 1998, and the Rosecrest development that followed helped turn the town into a city.

Herriman Pet Questions

Which pets need a license in Herriman?

All dogs, cats and ferrets in Herriman City must be licensed, and the city offers personalized tags with the pet's name and a phone number.

How many pets can I keep at a Herriman home?

Up to four household pets in total, with no more than three dogs, three cats or two ferrets at the same time.

How do I get a Herriman pet license?

Online through the Animal Services page, or by booking an appointment for an officer to come to your home at 801-758-0080.

Do I have to report a dog bite in Herriman?

Yes. State law requires animal bites to be reported to animal control or the Health Department within 24 hours, and the animal is quarantined for at least 10 days.

Can a Herriman landlord charge a deposit for my emotional support animal?

Utah Code 26B-6-803 prevents a private housing owner from adding an extra fee or deposit over a service or support animal, though the owner may still collect a reasonable cost to fix damage the animal causes. Because Utah ties support animal status to federal accommodation law, the federal side of an ESA request has been weaker since HUD stopped pursuing untrained-ESA cases in May 2026.

Can I use an e-collar instead of a leash in Herriman?

No. Animals must be restrained at all times by a leash, tether, other physical control device or enclosure, and e-collars do not count.
