From the Flying Cow Ranch to a Village
In the 1950s a Massachusetts accountant and pilot, Charles Oliver Wellington, bought swampland south of Southern Boulevard and west of U.S. 441. His initials spelled C.O.W., so he called it the Flying Cow Ranch. Strawberry growers later leased part of it, and after 1972 the Acme Drainage District plan brought Lake Wellington, a golf course and the first neighborhoods. Residents voted to incorporate on November 7, 1995 by just 138 votes, and Wellington officially became a village on December 31 that year.

Wellington Neighborhoods We Serve
Florida Law Behind a Wellington Letter
Reliable information, not records
Section 760.27 lets a landlord ask for information supporting the need, never your diagnosis or chart.
Telehealth counts
Florida accepts documentation from a telehealth provider practicing under section 456.47.
An online certificate alone falls short
The statute says registrations, ID cards or certificates bought on the internet are not sufficient by themselves.
Wellington Questions on the Stall Doors
When is the Wellington Dog Park open?
The park at 2975 Greenbriar Boulevard opens at dawn and closes at dusk. Every Thursday it stays shut until 3:00 PM so the village can maintain it.
How many dogs may one person handle at the Wellington Dog Park?
Three at most. Each handler has to be at least 16, and anyone younger must come with an adult who supervises closely.
Can a young puppy use the park on Greenbriar Boulevard?
Only once it reaches four months of age. Female dogs in heat are not admitted, and a handler must remove any dog that turns aggressive.
What tags must a dog wear inside the Wellington Dog Park?
The village requires every dog to be legally licensed and vaccinated and to wear its license where it can be seen. In Palm Beach County that is the county tag issued with a current rabies vaccination.
Does an ESA letter change how my dog may use Wellington's parks?
No. An emotional support animal letter is for a housing accommodation request. At the dog park your dog follows the same posted rules as every other dog.
What may a Wellington landlord request when I ask to keep an emotional support animal?
Florida Statute 760.27 lets a housing provider ask for reliable information supporting the need when a disability is not obvious, plus proof that the animal meets state and local licensing and vaccination rules. A diagnosis or your medical records cannot be demanded.
