How Hobe Became Jupiter
The Jaega lived by the inlet, and the people the Spanish recorded as Hobe gave the area its first name. Mapmakers turned the Spanish spelling Jobe into Jove, and later cartographers took Jove for the Roman god, so the name became Jupiter; neighboring Juno Beach later named itself after his consort. The brick Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was completed in 1860 and painted red in 1910. After Hurricane Jeanne sandblasted the upper tower in 2004, it was repainted with a mineral coating.
Jupiter Letters and Add-Ons
ESA letter for housing
Use it to ask a Jupiter landlord or association for a reasonable accommodation for your animal.
Letter covering more than one animal
Your clinician can name each animal that supports you.
Psychiatric service dog letter
For a dog trained to perform work or tasks for a psychiatric disability.
Certificate and ID card
Included with some bundles; Florida law does not treat them as proof by themselves.
Loxahatchee Battles and the Northern Edge
The Battles of the Loxahatchee were fought near present-day Jupiter in 1838, during the Seminole Wars. Today the town sits at the mouth of the Loxahatchee River, where the Indian River Lagoon ends at the Jupiter Inlet.
Jupiter Places We Serve
Florida Rules Jupiter Owners Should Know
Service animals are trained
Section 413.08 limits service animals to dogs and miniature horses trained for disability-related work; comfort alone does not qualify.
Housing requests under 760.27
A landlord can ask for supporting information and proof of licensing and vaccination, but never your medical records.
False claims carry penalties
Misrepresenting a service animal or ESA is a second-degree misdemeanor with 30 hours of community service.
Jupiter Questions Under Signal Flags
Where does the dog-friendly beach in Jupiter begin and end?
It covers about 2.5 miles, from dune crossover marker 26 at Marcinski Road, north of Ocean Cay Park, up to marker 57 at the Carlin Park property line.
At what times are dogs allowed on Jupiter Dog Beach?
From sunrise to sunset. Plan to have your dog off the sand once the sun is down.
Does my dog need a leash on the Jupiter dog beach?
Not on the sand inside the dog-friendly stretch, which is why only obedient, non-aggressive dogs that respond to voice commands should come. Leash your dog for the walk between the car and the beach, and leashing near small children is wise.
What should my dog wear or carry at Jupiter Dog Beach?
Proper tags and licenses worn visibly and securely around the neck, and you should be able to show evidence of rabies vaccination.
Is there parking and a restroom near the Jupiter dog beach?
Parking is free, and restrooms and showers are at nearby Ocean Cay Park and Carlin Park. Friends of Jupiter Beach supplies waste bags at every crossover along the stretch.
Can an emotional support dog use the rest of Jupiter's beaches?
An ESA letter does not change beach rules, so outside the dog-friendly stretch an emotional support dog is treated like any pet. Florida's service animal law, section 413.08, covers only dogs and miniature horses individually trained to do work or tasks.
