Does Deltona still require a pet license?
No. The City Commission removed the city pet licensing requirement effective April 4, 2026. Rabies vaccination, the spay and neuter ordinance and the leash law still apply, and the city encourages microchipping.
My landlord asked for my dog's license tag. What do I show now?
Show the rabies certificate from your veterinarian and, if you have one, the microchip record. Since the city no longer issues tags, those documents are the usual proof.
Does my emotional support dog have to be spayed or neutered in Deltona?
The ordinance covers dogs and cats four months and older and lists its own exemptions, such as medical reasons. Ask the city's Animal Control Division whether one fits your animal rather than assuming the letter covers it.
Can I get an ESA letter without leaving Deltona?
Yes. The screening and any evaluation happen online, with a telehealth session when the clinician needs one, so there is no drive to Orlando or Daytona Beach.
Can I take my dog on the trails at Lyonia Preserve?
Trail guides report that pet dogs are not permitted, because the preserve protects Florida scrub-jays and gopher tortoises. A trained service dog is a different case. Check with Volusia County before you go.
What if I am not approved?
You pay nothing. Payment is only taken after a clinician approves you and you choose a plan.
