Several Bay Towns, One City
Settlers arrived in the 1850s and coal mining towns followed. In 1903 several of the bay settlements, Fairhaven among them, joined to form Bellingham. A pulp mill ran on the downtown waterfront until 2001, and that industrial land is now being rebuilt as a mixed-use neighborhood.
