From The Range to Clinton

James Hill and his family settled this corner of what was then Layton in the 1870s, grazing animals and hauling drinking water from the Weber River. People called it The Range, Sand Ridge, The Basin or The Summit. Dry farming began in 1879, a railroad station opened by 1881, and the Clinton Ward was organized on May 29, 1897, though Clinton did not become a town until 1936.

Clinton Questions on Tear-Off Flyers

Who handles lost and found pets in Clinton?

Animal Care of Davis County. Clinton adopted the county's animal ordinance as its own standard, and the county's dispatch team answers at 801-444-2200, option 6.

What should a Davis County lost animal report include?

Any special markings, such as differently colored paws, eyes or chest, a missing toe or scars; whether the pet wears a collar and its color; whether it is microchipped; its gender, size and age in years and months; and a photo that best shows its coloring, size and markings.

How many dogs can a Clinton household have?

Three. When Clinton adopted the Davis County animal ordinance as its standard, the number of dogs allowed per household rose from two to three.

Does the county try to get lost pets home before the shelter?

Yes. Animal Care of Davis County runs a lost pet reunification service that gets most roaming pets home without them ever entering the shelter.

What happens if my lost pet reaches the Davis County shelter?

It waits out a statutory stray period of five business days before it can be adopted. Reclaiming it takes ID, proof of ownership and the $45 impound fee, plus $15 for each night it was boarded.

Can a Clinton apartment charge pet rent for an ESA?

Utah Code 26B-6-803 says owners of private housing may not charge an extra fee or deposit for a support animal that qualifies as an accommodation under federal law. After HUD's May 2026 change, whether an untrained ESA qualifies is decided on the facts of each request.
