Formed in 1835, Chartered in 1972

Mt. Juliet took shape in 1835 but did not incorporate as a city until 1972. The most widely accepted story says the name comes from the Mount Juliet Estate, a manor house in County Kilkenny, Ireland, and no other U.S. city shares it. Early on March 3, 2020, an EF3 tornado destroyed hundreds of homes here, along with West Wilson Middle School and Stoner Creek Elementary.
