Buchananville, a Physician's Name and an 1860 Charter
Early settlers knew this ground near Hurricane Creek and the Stones River as Buchanan land, and James B. Buchanan became postmaster at Buchananville in 1837. The present name is tied to Francois de La Vergne, a French-born physician later known as Francis Roulhac; the city says the post office took the name on the day he died in 1852. City records date the first charter to February 28, 1860. Skirmishes before the Second Battle of Murfreesboro reached the town in 1862, and much of it burned that year.

No. One of the city's general rules is simply no loose dogs.
What care does La Vergne expect owners to give their pets?
The city's general rules say pets should have a clean environment with plentiful fresh water, food and shelter.
Can I bring a stray to PAWS without calling first?
Only if the animal is sick, injured or has bitten. Other intakes are by appointment through the PAWS Resource Desk Line at 615-907-3647.
Where is the Rutherford County animal shelter?
PAWS, the county's animal services shelter, is at 285 John R Rice Boulevard in Murfreesboro. Its main line is 615-898-7740.
My dog went missing in La Vergne. What should I do first?
Visit PAWS in person and check its stray animals page often. The shelter can take in 20 to 60 animals a day.
Can a La Vergne landlord charge a pet fee for my support animal?
Tennessee lets a tenant with a disability ask for an exception to a policy that requires payment for an animal. If the disability is not apparent, the landlord may ask for reliable documentation first.
