Two Stagecoach Roads, a Winter Camp and a Tavern
Morristown was established in 1855 where two major stagecoach routes met. In December 1863 about 25,000 Confederate troops under General James Longstreet settled in to winter at Bethesda Presbyterian Church, northeast of town, and used the church as a hospital until February 1864. The Crockett Tavern Museum recreates the tavern of John Crockett, father of Davy Crockett, on its original site.

Morristown Questions in the Shop Windows
Who enforces Hamblen County's animal rules?
Animal Control, at 423-438-7981. The county's Codes Enforcement Office does not enforce these regulations.
When does barking count as a nuisance under the county rules?
Between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when the noise runs continuously for 10 minutes or on and off for half an hour or more. Alert barking, caused by a person on the owner's premises, does not count.
Is a dog that wanders while its owner is away running at large?
Yes. The county treats a dog that is allowed to come and go at will while its owners are away as running at large.
Can my dog go to a park in Hamblen County?
Yes, under control. A dog or cat in a park or public recreation area that is not under the control of its owner or an adult is a public nuisance under the county rules.
What does it cost to reclaim an impounded pet?
The owner pays a $10 boarding fee for each day, the impound costs and a rabies vaccination if no certificate is shown. Impounded animals are kept at least 72 hours.
Does the county regulation replace Morristown's own code?
No. Morristown's code of ordinances has its own animal control title, so check with the city about rules inside the city limits.
