Many local rentals carry no-pet terms, so a Hempstead ESA letter has to tell a landlord who evaluated you.
The limit depends on where you live. The town's rule is in its zoning ordinance, and villages set their own. None of these sections has a written exception for assistance animals, so ask before you add one.
| Where | The limit | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Town of Hempstead | No more than three adult dogs (six months or older) on a premises, in most districts | Zoning Ordinance 322 |
| Village of Hempstead | A combined total of four adult dogs and cats | Village Code 57-10 |
| Village of Garden City | No more than three adult dogs on any premises | Village Code 55-2 |
A housing letter does not replace a license. In a village, ask the village clerk; Garden City, for one, licenses its own dogs. Town dog license
