Linton, Then Delray
African American farmers from the Florida Panhandle bought land near the Orange Grove House of Refuge and began farming around 1884, opening the area's first school by 1894. That year Michigan congressman William S. Linton bought a tract nearby, and the farming town took his name. After the hard freeze of 1898 many settlers left, and in 1901 the town was renamed Delray, after a Detroit neighborhood whose name comes from the Spanish del rey, "of the king."

Delray Beach Questions on Gallery Labels
What rabies schedule does Palm Beach County follow?
Dogs, cats and ferrets get their first rabies vaccine by four months of age and a booster one year after that first shot, even if the first was given when the pet was older. After the booster, follow the one-year or three-year schedule on the vaccine label.
My pet's rabies shot is overdue. What should I do?
Take the pet to a veterinarian for the booster as soon as possible. Palm Beach County considers the pet currently vaccinated immediately after it receives the booster.
When is the next shot due after a three-year vaccine?
On or before three years from the date of the previous shot.
When is Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control open?
The main facility at 7100 Belvedere Road keeps hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and closes on government holidays. Animal viewing areas open at noon.
Who handles county tag renewal questions?
Palm Beach County directs tag renewal questions to 1-888-782-6057 or the PetData website.
Can a miniature horse be a service animal in Florida?
Yes. Section 413.08 defines a service animal as a dog or a miniature horse individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
