Named for the Deer by the River
A settlement called Hillsborough grew up along the Hillsboro River from 1890. Settlers renamed it Deerfield for the deer that grazed by the water, and farms of pineapples, tomatoes and beans filled the land.

Sea Turtles, Surf and a No-Animals Beach
Loggerhead, green and leatherback turtles nest on Deerfield's sand, and beach lighting is kept dim so hatchlings are not confused. It is one reason the beach stays animal-free.

Can I take my emotional support dog on Deerfield Beach?
No. The city's beach rules say no animals are allowed, and an ESA letter does not change that. The closest dog beach is Bark Beach at Spanish River Park in Boca Raton, which needs a Boca permit for each dog.
What about a trained psychiatric service dog?
A trained service dog can generally go where the public goes, including public beaches, as long as it is under control. An emotional support animal does not have that public access right.
My condo on the island has a no-pet rule. Can I still keep my cat?
You can ask the association for a reasonable accommodation. Send your ESA letter to the board in writing, and keep a copy of what you sent and when.
