Pea Ridge, the Chickasaw Trace and a Rebuilt Depot
The community grew on a ridge between the Wolf River and Nonconnah Creek, about 16 miles east of the Mississippi, where settlers arrived around 1825. It was called Pea Ridge in 1833, surveyor N. T. German laid out lots in 1834, and the name Germantown followed in 1836, five years before incorporation. The Memphis and Charleston Railroad came through in 1852. The depot on Germantown Road was rebuilt in 1948 to replace the 1868 original and now houses the Germantown Train Museum.
