Union Depot on the Stage Road
Before it had its name, Bartlett was Union Depot, the last major Tennessee stop on the westward stagecoach route from Nashville. When the Memphis and Ohio Railroad replaced the stage line, the depot became a rail station, and the town incorporated on November 1, 1866. It is named for Major Gabriel M. Bartlett, whose homeplace stood on the old Raleigh-Somerville Road where Bartlett Station Plaza is today.
