How a Mount Pleasant Screening Becomes a Letter

Starting costs nothing: the first questions reveal whether an evaluation makes sense for you before any payment.

01

Begin your screening

Describe your symptoms, the help your animal gives and whether you rent or live in an HOA community.

02

Your evaluation, over video

After checkout, a South Carolina-licensed clinician meets you on video to evaluate whether a letter is supported.

03

A decision with reasons

A supported request becomes a signed letter in your account; an unsupported one comes with reasons and our refund policy.

Why American Service Animals Works for Mount Pleasant Households

A Mount Pleasant ESA letter often goes to an HOA board or a landlord with no-pet housing rules, so the details matter.

Every letter comes from a real evaluation with a licensed South Carolina clinician, never from an automated form.

  • State license on the page

The clinician's South Carolina license appears on your letter, so a board or landlord can check it.

  • Written for housing and HOAs

Your PSD letter, or the letter for your emotional support animal, is addressed to the housing provider, landlord or association.

  • Video visits from home

No drive across the Ravenel Bridge is needed; the evaluation happens over video.

  • A price you see first

Plan prices above are the amount checkout charges, and if no letter can be supported, you can use our refund policy.

ESAs in Mount Pleasant HOA and Condo Communities

Neighborhoods such as I'On and Dunes West have homeowners associations with their own rules, and the state keeps a record of HOA complaints.

What the state's 2026 HOA report found

S.C. Code 27-30-340 has the Department of Consumer Affairs collect complaints about homeowners associations and publish a report each year. The 2026 report covered 2025:

  • 452 complaints about 339 associations and management companies.
  • 1,104 separate concerns raised in those complaints.
  • Covenant and bylaw enforcement at the top of the list, ahead of maintenance and ignored records requests.

Asking an HOA about your ESA

  1. Read the association's pet rules and any process it has for accommodation requests.
  2. Send your request and letter in writing to the board or the management company.
  3. Keep copies; if you rent, start with your landlord, since the lease runs through them.

When can my ESA run off leash on the Isle of Palms beach?

From April 1 to September 14, between 5 and 9 a.m.; from September 15 to March 31, between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. At other times the dog stays leashed and under complete control, even in the water.

Does my dog need a license to visit Sullivan's Island?

Yes. The town requires a dog license for every dog on its streets, private property and beach, visitors' dogs included. Town Hall answers questions at 843-883-3198.

Can dogs go on Sullivan's Island's beach on summer afternoons?

No. Between May 1 and September 30, dogs may not be on the sand from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.; off-leash time runs 5 to 10 a.m., and evenings are leash-only.

Where does South Carolina track HOA complaints?

The Department of Consumer Affairs collects them under S.C. Code 27-30-340 and publishes a yearly report; the 2026 report counted 452 complaints about 339 HOAs and management companies.

What should I send an HOA board about my ESA?

A written request with your letter, addressed to the board or management company, with copies kept for your records. Renters should begin with their landlord.

Where can Mount Pleasant residents book mental health appointments?

The Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center's Charleston Clinic at 2100 Charlie Hall Boulevard, 843-852-4100, on weekdays. Its crisis line, 843-414-2350, is answered around the clock.

Where are dogs found loose in Mount Pleasant taken?

To the Charleston Animal Society's Remount Road shelter in North Charleston, which takes in the town's found strays Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Can a Mount Pleasant homeowner get an ESA letter, or only renters?

Homeowners can ask for one too, for example where an HOA or condo association limits animals. The evaluation is the same video visit with a South Carolina-licensed clinician.

How long does a Mount Pleasant ESA letter stay valid?

Every plan above lists the letter as valid for one year. To keep using it after that, you renew it with a new evaluation.

What this page says about Mount Pleasant is current as of October 2026, based on the Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island town sites, the Department of Consumer Affairs, BHDD, the Human Affairs Commission, South Carolina Legal Services and the Charleston Animal Society. It is general information and not legal advice for your home or lease. Screening does not guarantee a letter, because a licensed clinician makes that decision after the evaluation. Rules shift over time, so check each source directly. If you are struggling right now, 988 is there by phone or text, day and night.
