Indian Trace Becomes Weston
In the 1950s industrialist Arthur Vining Davis, Arvida's first owner, controlled the land Weston now covers. Bonaventure was sold and built separately; Arvida/JMB Realty developed the rest as Indian Trace, renamed Weston in the early 1980s.
- 1984: the first Arvida homes were finished in Country Isles and Windmill Ranch.
- May 6, 1996: the State Legislature approved the local bill for a vote.
- September 3, 1996: Weston incorporated, with about 90% of voters in favor.

Weston Questions on the Bulletin Board
How long does Broward County hold a lost pet that has ID?
Pets with identification, such as a collar and tag, a microchip or a tattoo, are generally held for five days, as are confiscated animals.
How long is a stray dog without ID held?
Broward County Animal Care says stray dogs without identification are held for three days.
What happens to a lost cat without ID?
The county places apparently healthy cats and kittens for adoption and returns sterilized community cats to the field, so a Weston owner should search and visit the Adoption Center right away.
Can Broward tell me when a dog of my breed arrives?
Yes. The Breed Notification System sends an email for 30 days each time an animal of the breed you choose comes into the shelter.
How do I update my pet's Broward registration details?
Search the Pet Registration Database by tag number and choose Record Update, or call Animal Care at 954-359-1313.
Am I responsible if my ESA damages a Weston rental?
Yes. Florida Statute 760.27 bars extra charges for an approved emotional support animal but leaves the tenant liable for any damage the animal causes.
