Tallahassee's two big universities each run their own emotional support animal process for residence halls, and both start well before move-in day.
Florida State University
- Register with the Office of Accessibility Services: an Application for Support Services, documentation that links the animal to your disability, and an intake appointment.
- Once approved, sign University Housing's Emotional Support Animal Agreement and submit veterinary records on health, licensing and vaccination before the animal moves in.
- Meet a Residential Life liaison before move-in. The animal stays under your control and is not left alone overnight or with anyone else.
Florida A&M University
- Requests go through the Center for Disability Access and Resources (CeDAR), which works with FAMU Housing on accommodations.
- CeDAR says processing can take up to two weeks even with complete documentation, and longer when documentation is missing.
- Each request is reviewed on its own, and housing deadlines still apply to you.
A letter from your clinician can be part of the documentation these offices ask for, and each university decides what it accepts.

- The impound fee is $25 for a first offense, $50 for a second and $75 for a third, plus a $16 rabies deposit when the vaccine is not current.

What Florida Law Means for Tallahassee Renters
