How long does an ESA appeal take?
A landlord has no fixed deadline, so name one yourself, usually 10 to 14 days. If you file with the Florida Commission on Human Relations, it aims to finish its investigation within 100 days of the complaint, though cases can run longer.
Is there a deadline to file a fair housing complaint in Florida?
Yes. A complaint to the Florida Commission on Human Relations must be filed within one year of the alleged violation, and a civil action in court within two years.
Should I include my diagnosis in the appeal?
No. Florida does not allow a housing provider to ask for your diagnosis, its severity or your medical records. A qualifying letter that confirms a disability and the need for the animal is enough.
What if my landlord ignores the appeal?
