Named for a Mining Town in the Andes
A Northern Pacific engineer, Virgil Bogue, named Pasco after Cerro de Pasco in Peru, where he had helped build a railroad. Lewis and Clark had camped nearby on October 16, 1805, at the site now marked by Sacajawea State Park. Irrigation from the Grand Coulee Dam later turned the railroad town into a farming hub.
